Fishers Stormwater and Property Tax Sham

Well, folk’s you have been had again by the Fishers Town Council – The new Stormwater Management Advisory Board has had its first members appointed. For those of you that guessed it has been rigged – well your right. Here are the names David George – Member of Council, Dan Henke – Member of Council and Gary Huff – City Manager. Now for those of you that believe that Gary Huff would vote against the Town Council that fully controls and pays his salary you do not live in Fishers. For those of you that believe this will be an independent board you don’t live in Fishers. For those of you that believe they will be fair in setting the new TAX rate for storm water management, you don’t live in Fishers. For those of you that believe everything is above board and fair you must live in Fishers because you keep these people in office.

So here is why that Fishers claims its property taxes are lower, they just find another way to tax your property. Funny how that works use storm water to increase the property tax without calling it a property tax. Folks that is exactly what it is, you see you have to own property to be taxed for the storm water, so without property you don’t get taxed, with property you get taxed. But then don’t call it a tax; call it a fee for use of the storm water ditch, which the road department keeps clear. So now you have a new form of property tax, which is not even a tax but a fee based on the fact that you own property. Well to me it’s a property tax.

Folks when are you going to wake up to the Town Council?

It is an unfunded Federal Mandate that has its roots in the Clean water Act of 1972. The Stormwater utility is the way that Fishers has choosen to fund ite program. I have no love of the Fishers Town Council and feel that term limits are needed or a vote to make Fishers a city, but this comes from the Feds.

Yes I fully understand where it is coming from. But look at how Fishers is going to do this and I am willing to bet, they are using this as a profit center and will use this money on roadways etc under the table that it is stormwater work, then transfer what they had for roads to some other pet projects they have. It is a tax on all the property owners, also they have been doing this for years, now they need this money?
Term limits – yes, great idea and also the ability to have recall elections, but those are not allowed in this state.

I remember the good old days when this web site was targeted for the use of Fishers residents–not for the bashing of the Town itself. Aah, the good old days, when the person running the site actually cared about the content and not about the Town's annexation efforts (or making money).

ah, the good old days…how much do you think I make on this site?

Fishers Town Council threw that concept out when they launched open warefare on the Citizens of Giest. The lying by the Council Members on all the "free" services, etc by Geist people. It is time to show the very good people of Fishers how bad their government leaders are.

To the citizens of Fishers – your government has dug themselves into a big money pit and are looking for ways to bail all of you out. The storm water is one of the new taxes against all of you without having to "raise taxes." Just as they have been lying to everyone about Geist, they are lying to you.

The Copunty also has to address the Stormwater Program and has yet to "tax" the residents of Hamilton County. MaybeBagel has a point about living within your means.

There is a big difference between bashing the town of Fishers and shining a light on some of the questionable actions of the Fishers Town Council. In a town of well over 60,000 residents, to have the meager showing of probably less than 3,000 people vote in the last election is shameful. By saying that, I am not bashing the people of Fishers. You might call it a bashing of the political parties that allow this to happen. I realize that you can't get very excited about an election where you don't have choices and everyone runs unopposed. But, that is where Fishers problem lies. When you get town leaders that know their positions aren't in jeopardy, they tend to get a sense that they can do anything that they want. There is no accountability. Their cronies will keep them in office and the rest of the people don't care anyway. In the last two years, the people of Geist probably have learned more about Fishers politics and the inner workings of the Town Council than most of the Fishers town residents. In my opinion, these posts are a great way to inform the people of Fishers as to what is going on. If you don't believe the information being given, you can always do you own research and investigation. That is what the people of Geist have done with the information that the Fishers Town Council has given them. We have become very sceptical of the Town Council because of the things we have learned and the way that they have conducted certain aspects of their offices and these annexation proceedings. I am not the kind of person who believes everything someone tells me, especially if it is coming from the mouth of a politician. Believe it or not, I don't believe everything that the GUO tells me either. But, I do make phone calls, get on the internet and look up documents, I go to the source and ask questions, attend meetings, and do as much of my own research as I can. Then I can make a more informed decision as to who is telling me the truth and who isn't. Fishers hasn't done very well with me and has failed the test on multiple occasions. The GUO on the other hand has done extremely well with putting out information that has passed my litmus test. So, you can ignore the posts or you can take them for what you might learn from them. I am sure you are also welcome to put your comments on the atGeist.com website posts. After all, I think that is the whole reason for the posts; to start dialogs and to shine a light on subjects that normally don't see the light of day. Because, what you don't know…can hurt you. OR, at least cause you a big bad headache in the future.

    Thank you Just an Observation.

You are right the Geist people are getting a better understanding of Fishers politics than the people who live in Fishers. When you say Geist people are getting to understand the inner workings of Fishers politics than most the citizens of Fishers. I would say more than 99% of the Citizens of Fishers. At the Town Hearing on Geist the other night only one Citizen of the Town of Fishers spoke, that is one out of 60,000 and actually we can’t count that person as he works in the Republican Party for Charlie White. Could we call him a plant? Maybe. The only person from Geist to speak for annexation loved the growth of the town and all it brings him. He was proud that his family 150 years ago had their land taken away from them by the State of Indiana where I-69 starts today. I wonder what his family said back then. I doubt they were proud or even happy or had nice things to say about the government stealing their land, also does he realize that if they didn’t take it away today he would be a billionaire. So I can’t count him as too bright.

I also want to thank you for saying the GUO has given you information that has passed your “litmus test.” The GUO has repeatedly taken the high ground and told the truth, whereas Fishers as in the case of this Storm sewer Tax has taken the road of deception. In almost all matters of government they are not telling the Citizens of their Town the real story.

Thanks for the information. My point was that this web site's humble beginnings were as a vehicle for communicating and discussing Fishers events, etc. It has now become what the saynotofishers.com site used to be, a tool to hammer the GUO's thoughts into the heads of Fishers residents. Just making an observation.

I hope you all have a happy new year–whether you are from Fishers OR Geist!

jagger3534, I thought a "blog" is somewhere that you can post comments on any subject. Are you suggesting that the atFishers.com blog should be reserved for Fishers residents only, and that only "feel good, Disney type" posts be allowed? Isn't that considered censorship. That kind of reminds me of Pee Wee Herman putting his hands over his ears, shutting his eyes, and going "La-la-la-la-la" loud enough that he can't hear anything. This blog is a vehicle for information. Whether it is something about a community or school event, politics, or just a comment to inform citizens about something of which they otherwise might not be aware. It is like reading a newspaper. Some things are of interest to some, but not others. Do you attend the Town Council meetings every month? I am pretty sure that there is at least one GUO member that does, every month. That is why you are seeing some of the posts regarding the Town Council. All the Geist people are saying is: Please, become an informed citizen of your community. Don't take the Town Councils "word" on everything, or even the GUO's. Do your own fact finding. You will be amazed!

It's a real estate tax. It's over the 1% cap and therefore, in my mind, illegal.

That is unless they get to collect less in real estate tax to com
