Viewers watching NBC’s Today Show enjoyed an unplanned on-air slip-up recently when show co-host Hoda Kotb unwittingly revealed her private cellphone number while demonstrating Samsung’s new watchphone. What followed was a flurry of phone calls and voice mails from viewers across the U.S. who pulled the cell number from their TV screens and started dialing. A New York City tabloid reported that by the time Kotb and co-host Kathie Lee Gifford returned from a commercial break Hoda had 20 voicemail messages and more than a thousand text messages.
The following day, as Kotb and Gifford re-visited the snafu, Hoda randomly answered a couple of rings from the stream of calls still coming to her cell number. Here’s where Fishers’ fame occurred:
Hoda: (While looking at the watchphone) There’s a place called Fishers, Indiana.
Kathi Lee: I hear they’re nice people living in Fishers, Indiana!
(Much laughter ensued)
We don’t think Fishers is desperate for national publicity. Indeed, it’s been rated a top place to live in the U.S. Still, it’s not the worst thing that could happen for Fishers. And, atFishers/atGeist is interested in connecting with the presumed Fishers resident who made the call to Hoda – but you’ll have to prove it was you!
