Flavor of Fishers Combines Food, Fun & Fundraising

Who doesn’t like to eat? That’s what the Fishers Chamber of Commerce was banking on when it organized the Flavor of Fishers, held on USA Parkway Saturday (Aug. 2).

It was the first “taste” event of this scale in Fishers, featuring 28 restaurants, each offering samples of their specialties for $1-$5. The event also featured live entertainment, kids games and a row of automobiles ranging from classic to state-of-the-art.

Miller family “This is organized so well,” said Windermere resident Sheri Miller, who brought her daughters and a friend out to the event. “It gets everyone out in the community, and it’s a lot of fun.”

Geist residents Bill and Lupae Hunsicker liked that they could please everyone in the family by stopping at different booths, but Lupae had hoped to see more independent restaurants and fewer chains.

As former Cincinnati residents, Terry and Lisa Tolle always enjoyed the Taste of Cincinnati and were glad to see Fishers starting a similar event.

Tolle Family “We see a lot of our favorite restaurants here,” said Lisa, adding that Sahm’s seemed to have the best variety with 13 food items and four beverages.

Terry added that he’d like to see more “taste” priced items rather than $5 entrees. Paying $1-$2 for a sample-size food item would allow people to visit more vendors, he said.

“It’s a start, and that’s good,” he said. “I’m glad to see they’re doing something in this area. We always come to this kind of stuff.”

For local restaurants, it was an opportunity to show community members what they have to offer. As workers at the Essence Cafe handed out green tea smoothies, they told people of their new extended hours to 9 p.m. Fionn MacCool’s set up a prize wheel to give out coupons for future visits to the local Irish pub.

The all-day event featured Silly Safaris for the kids in the afternoon and Zanna Doo for the evening crowd.  Proceeds go to support the Chamber, the Fishers Arts Council and HSE Schools Foundation.
