Junior Reporter Takes an ‘Inside’ Look at Bodies…the Exhibition

By Autumn Gates, Junior Reporter —

Bodies…the Exhibition is a place where they have preserved body parts. At first, I thought it was just going to be gross. It was cool, but still gross.

Here’s what I learned:

  • There are over 600 muscles that line and wrap nearly every square inch of the body.
  • You wouldn’t be able to hear if it weren’t for the hammer, anvil and stirrup bones. They are tiny bones in your ear that help you hear. I had no idea we had these bones!
  • There is an outer shell of the brain. The outer shell is a sac around the brain that protects the brain from being harmed.
  • Girls brains account for 2.5 percent of their body weight. Boys brains account for 2 percent of their body weight. Cheryl Mure, director of education, said the extra .5 percent of girl’s brains don’t actually make them smarter, but I don’t believe that!
  • It can take two days for your food to digest.
  • Arteries look like red twigs or a dish scrubber. I didn’t know that was really a part of my body.
  • Kids have enough blood cells to wrap around the Earth twice. Now that’s really amazing! Probably, adults’ blood cells can wrap around the Earth four times.

Private tour People might not smoke if they knew what their lungs looked like. They’re really gross because they’re all black. You can tell the difference because the healthy lungs are white, and smoker’s lungs are all black with holes. They’re really gross.

Smoking one pack of cigarettes takes 3 hours and 40 minutes off of your life. There’s a clear box for people to throw their cigarettes away after they see the lungs. I hope it gets filled up!

There was a body cut in half, and my mom made me take a picture between the body. It is really scary to look through a body!

I would recommend this exhibit for anyone who wants to learn about their body and wants to see gross things!
