The Lawrence Township School Foundation is pleased to receive a $15,000 donation from the Geist Half Marathon & 5K. The second annual race, held May 16, 2009, had 6,000 participants. Over 700 Lawrence Township students participated in the Foundation’s after-school “Up & Running” program last spring. The students trained two days a week after school with the help of teacher and volunteer mentors. The Geist Half Marathon & 5K was the culminating event of spring training.
The distributed funds from the Geist Half will support Lawrence Township School Foundation’s nationally recognized “My Community Gets Healthy” (MCGH) program. In addition to the Up & Running program, MCGH provides heart rate monitors and computer equipment that allow teachers and students to track their overall fitness levels and the progress students make in improving their fitness.
“We appreciate our partnership with the Geist Half to support healthy life styles and positively impact our students,” stated Ellen Robinson, Foundation Executive Director. The Foundation’s fall Up & Running program will begin in October.
The Geist Half Marathon, Inc. is an Indiana non-profit corporation organized to inspire health and wellness in the children surrounding Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis, Indiana.
