Murphy’s Craft House Coming to Geist

Ryan Stonebraker, co-owner of Murphy’s PubHouse, announced recently their newest location in the former Gathering Bistro & Pub location at Fox and Oaklandon Roads.

Remember the television show, “Cheers,” with Ted Danson? A place where “everyone knows your name” and what you like to eat and drink? It’s that type of comfort that brings people from all corners of Indianapolis to a local pub and eatery: Murphy’s PubHouse.

When you step into Murphy’s PubHouse, conveniently located at 11650 Olio Rd., in the Kroger Shopping Center in Fishers, it feels like walking into Cheers. This sense of belonging and family is the feel that brothers and owners Ryan and Craig Stonebraker want Murphy’s PubHouse to manifest.

Becoming a local pub and eatery means a place has to have a signature feature. Murphy’s has several items they are famous for serving to their customers. Their popular items include the Hoosier Pork Tenderloin and steak burgers along with their famous pizzas and hand-cut steaks. They always offer daily food and drink specials.

“There are a lot of customers who have been with us since day one and that always makes you feel like you are doing the right thing, which is serving quality food and drinks at a reasonable value with great service,” Stonebraker said.

Stonebraker noted that some customers love the food and atmosphere so much, they are in more than once a week. “Some people are in here five times a week,” Stonebraker stated. “I love it. They tell me they appreciate the family-friendly atmosphere. They can bring the kids and enjoy a great meal and family time. A lot of the same cooks have been with Murphy’s since it opened four years ago, and they take pride in knowing their food is being enjoyed.”

“Our family has been involved in the food and beverage business in Indianapolis since the 1950s,” Stonebraker said with a proud smile. “Our grandfather, Orville, co-owned and operated a restaurant called The Huddle, and our father, Orville (Stoney), owned and operated several restaurants on the east side of Indy and has owned the East Street Stoney’s Liquor Store in Indianapolis for over 40 years.”

In later years, The Ah Barista Cafe in downtown Indianapolis and the legendary Murphy’s Steakhouse in Indianapolis were also family-owned and operated. The success of the initial Murphy’s PubHouse has been so welcoming that a second location was opened at 6120 E. Thompson Rd. at the corner of Thompson and Arlington Roads.

The success of the three restaurants has allowed the Stonebraker brothers to start a fourth establishment in Geist in the Marsh Shopping Center on Fox Road where The Gathering used to be. They have never been so excited about a new restaurant as they are about the Fox Road adventure opening in the fall. They can’t wait to provide a much-needed restaurant to the south shores of Geist as well as Oaklandon, Lawrence and Indy.

“This will be our biggest place to date,” Stonebraker said. “We will have more tables, live music and a large patio.”

A final name hasn’t been picked out yet. “Some of the possible names include Brakers, Murphy’s Crafthouse and Murphy’s at Geist,” Stonebraker said. “We want the neighborhood people to pick out the final name, so we have been asking for help on our Facebook page, facebook.com/MurphysPubHouse. We will let people know when the name has been chosen.”

Worked for Mr. Stonebraker when he bought out the Laughner's cafeteria across from Steer-In. No one had to worry about loosing jobs, or big changes, he kept everyone (including "Sparky" who only worked on Sundays and lived at Crestwood Village) and was wonderful to work for. We love Murphy's and the always wonderful food and service! Good food is in the family!
