New Geist Area Church Offers Real Help with Life’s Issues

Pastors at new Geist Chapel You may have seen signs that they were coming…literally! Geist Chapel signs have popped up all over Geist, and postcards have been arriving in the mail for several weeks.

I recently had the chance to sit down and talk with Max Anders, lead teaching pastor, and Luis llerena, Jr., executive-0utreach pastor, while work crews continued remodeling down the hall and kids laughed on the playground outside. (Discovery Cove daycare is still part of the building at 9030 East 96th street). The inaugural service is September 13th at 10:30 a.m.

The two spoke of their hopes and dreams for Geist Chapel. The church motto is: “The help you need for the life you want.” Landers says it is based on the five life responsibilities: personal, family, work, church and society.

“A lot of people want to do what’s right; they just need a little help getting there,” says Landers.

For example, those trying to get their family finances in order, will be able to turn to Geist Chapel for a helpful seminar. The same goes for marital issues….they may need some help with the relationship, and this is a place for them to find good counsel.

“Sometimes, churches are good at telling you what you should do, but we want to be a church that helps you get there,” says Landers.

Llerena says his goal is to help people realize they need to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, “and the rest will come.” Llerena is a “been there done that” kind of guy who was hitchhiking as a teenager when someone picked him up and talked about the Gospel. “Let’s just say, it changed my life!” laughs Llerena.

Geist Chapel Geist Chapel hopes to grow into everything the community wants and needs, with their own musical group and youth programs. “We know those with certain talents will come forward to help, and we will welcome them!” says Landers.

Geist Chapel invites everyone in the community to check them out in their new home at near the 96th Street Starbucks. For more information on Geist Chapel, go to www.geistchapel.org.
