Red Sake Opens Its Doors

Dee Balmorez and Tim Breunig, owners of Red Sake on Fall Creek Road.

A new stylish comfortable sushi restaurant, Red Sake, is now open along Fall Creek Road in the Fishers/Geist area, and if you haven’t stopped in yet, it may be worth the trip to check it out!

Red Sake offers some of the typical sushi fare but with their own twist. The sushi rolls have some fun names, and there’s also Vietnamese dishes and Hibachi grill items. But what sets Red Sake apart from some other sushi spots in the area is the bar — complete with its signature red wall and flat screen TVs!

“The bar has been a big hit,” laughs owner Tim Breunig. “We make some special rolls for certain games such as our Buckeye and Spartan rolls for the Big Ten Championship game! We want it to be fun.”

Geist resident Tim Breunig had been planning the opening of Red Sake with friend Dee (short for her long Vietnamese name) Balmorez for about two years after visiting her restaurant Kobe in southern Indiana. “I enjoyed her restaurant and thought we needed something like that here along this stretch of Fall Creek,” says Tim.

On the night my daughter and I stopped in, they were serving up orders of Yakisoba, a Japanese dish, and Bulgogi, a sliced beef dish, but it was the sushi and names that stole the show!

We tried the “Fall Creek” sushi roll which is spicy crawfish wrapped in rice paper, the Red Sake roll which is a masterfully carved cucumber with fish cake inside and the 317 (yes, our area code) roll which was spicy crab with cream cheese and deep fried sweet chili, all ranging in price from $9-$15. My daughter’s favorite roll was the “Crunch” which features shrimp tempura, crab and avocado topped with eel sauce.

You can get as crazy or as simple with the sushi rolls, so don’t let some of the unique ingredients scare you off!

There’s a great selection of hot and cold sakes including many of the new fruit flavored sakes. They also feature Cee Lo Green’s favorite sake, TY KU (my favorite too).

Red Sake has a fun relaxed environment where you can find your favorite dish or try something new for dinner. They’re open weekdays until 9 pm, Friday and Saturday until 10 pm and for lunch daily except Monday.
