Staying Fit at Geist: LoKe Bicycles’ Mobile Unit

1476708913___lokejimIn my perpetual quest for fun alternatives to mundane physical activity, I crossed paths with the innovative Jim Moffitt of LoKe Bicycles, a Fishers-based bicycle company. LoKe Bicycles started their “low key” customer service experience in October of 2013 with the mindset “There’s a bicycle for everybody.” As I peeled back the layers of LoKe, specifically reviewing their comprehensive approach to wellness, I soon realized the depth of LoKe Bicycles made them much more than a bike shop – LoKe is a lifestyle.

What is your new “Mobile Unit” all about?

“Our newest addition to LoKe Bicycles is the LoKe Mobile Unit. Health and wellness is playing a much greater role in corporate culture. Companies that invest in the employees’ health and wellness have seen fewer sick days and fewer trips to the doctor for medical illness, and as a result, lower healthcare costs. It isn’t unusual for a company to invest in an on-site gym or pay for gym memberships for their employees. Some will bring in consultants for lifestyle changes. We noticed that not all employees want to lift weights, swim or run for their exercise. Our goal with the Mobile Unit is to help get more people into a healthy lifestyle using a bicycle as the catalyst. The mobile unit is available as an on-site repair station for employee bicycles. Companies can help pay for a tune-up, either in full or in part as incentive for the employee group. The services offered can vary greatly by the amount of investment from the host company.”

Do you have any exciting news from 2016 and/or plans for 2017?

“Yes, some great things happened for LoKe in 2016: LoKe Bicycles has been recognized as one of America’s Best Bike Shops for 2016 by the National Bicycle Dealers Association. The Indy A-List recognized LoKe Bicycles as the Best Bike Shop on Indy’s northside. This recognition is a result of customer voting. In regards to our mobile unit, we are currently booking corporate partnerships for 2017.”

LoKe Bicycles is located at 116th and Brook School Road in Fishers, and they are open Monday  through Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. To learn more about LoKe Bicycles, visit lokebicycles.com or on Facebook at facebook.com/loke.bicycles.
