The Geist Half is One Way To Celebrate a Birthday
For Fishers resident John Hoopes, participating in the Geist Half is the best way to celebrate his birthday.
Some people celebrate their birthdays by going out to dinner or having cake and ice cream with family and friends, and while that may be part of the birthday weekend plan, Hoopes is celebrating his birthday with 2,500 people. All of these people will be participating in the Geist Half alongside him, unknowingly helping to lift him along with moral support in crossing the finish line on his 71st birthday.
Hoopes and his wife, Linda, moved to Fishers 11 years ago for her job. “We had lived in Ohio our entire lives until the move to Fishers,” shares Linda. “We thought we would be here for five or so years and then move back, but as we were looking to sell our home and exploring living options in Ohio, we came to the realization that we love it here.”
The couple completed the inaugural Geist Half and keep active in retirement with walking, yoga, gardening and visiting their 11 grandchildren. “We live in Britton Falls, a Del Webb community, and absolutely love it,” says Linda. The community fits their active lifestyle.
Perhaps Linda will be at the finish line with a birthday cake for John.
