The goal of the staff at JB’s Furniture is to make each customer’s house into a home. With a huge inventory of products for every type of room, plus home accessories and accent pieces, owners J.B. and Jill Blackwood, along with their staff, are well equipped to help clients achieve their decorating dreams. Operating from a 36,000-square-foot location at 2101 East Center Street in Warsaw since 2008, the store has been a fixture in the community for many years.
After learning the furniture business from his father James, who owned Furniture Land in Goshen, J.B. Blackwood purchased Bill Nay Furniture in 1991. The store was renamed JB’s Furniture, but the original 1954 phone number was retained and is still in use. Originally on Winona Avenue, the business moved to Market Street in 1994 before relocating to its present site.
Through the years, JB’s Furniture has become known for the quality brands it offers. The store features a Flexsteel Signature Gallery, and carries a large selection of Flexsteel sofas, recliners, bedroom furniture and dining room furniture. Flexsteel is a 125-year-old company that has become known for manufacturing some of the most high-quality furniture in the industry.
J.B. Blackwood strives to make sure customers can choose from a high-quality, long-lasting selection. Besides carrying a wide variety of furniture brands such as Bassett, Southern Motion, Lexington and HomeStretch, the store was one of the first in its area to carry Tempur-Pedic mattresses. JB’s Furniture has been awarded with the Tempur-Pedic company’s Elite Retailer status, and the store offers the manufacturer’s complete line of products.
“We are also known for being one of the few retailers to still offer two-sided mattresses,” Blackwood says. “Logically, these mattresses last at least twice as long because you have two sides. These mattresses are made to stringent specifications by Restonic in Escanaba, Michigan.”
Customer communication is a key component of JB’s Furniture. Information about brands and free delivery areas, as well as fun videos, can be found on the store’s official website. During business hours, customers can call the store directly and ask questions.
“Our store has a unique vibe among furniture stores,” Blackwood says. “There are no salespeople. The staff consists of decorator and design specialists that work together to create a unique space that fits you and your home.”
The staff’s customer service approach includes delivery with expert setup, as well as what Blackwood describes as remarkable post-sale service, if issues or questions arise.
“Our decorators and design staff urge our customers to bring pictures and samples of carpet and color with them, to assist in the billions of possibilities we can create to – as they like to say – ‘Make your home you,’” Blackwood says.
