Business Spotlight: Noblesville Chamber of Commerce
Helmer Scientific is a growing medical device company headquartered in Noblesville since 1987. Helmer designs, engineers, integrates, manufactures and markets specialized medical and laboratory equipment for clinical and life science customers in over 130 countries worldwide. Helmer’s integrated products improve safety and secure access in the blood bank and pharmacy.
Helmer has a three-prong purpose: to aid its customers in their efforts to improve and save lives; to foster a spirit of generosity; and support the growth and development of its employees.
Helmer’s Generosity Program has multiple pillars including product donation and supporting employees in their pursuit of personal generosity through service. Seventy percent of Helmer’s team members engage in Helmer Generosity Initiatives in some way. So far in 2018, the company has donated 66 units that will be distributed to hospitals and clinics in underserved areas of the world.
“When selecting a donation partner, we look for a cause that fits our generosity culture,” says Matt Schafer, a tech service manager who oversees the donations.
Recently, Helmer was chosen to be part of a life-saving mission in Rwanda that uses drones to transport blood to patients in remote areas. Helmer equipment stores the blood and ensures it is viable for the patient when it is delivered.
Bruce King, CEO of Helmer Scientific said, “As a company we’ve donated equipment to places like Haiti, the former Soviet Georgia, and Vietnam, and that’s just a way of living for us.”
Helmer Scientific currently has 284 employees and was announced as a Top 5 place to work in Noblesville by Zippia. “I work at Helmer Scientific because I believe in our products, our employees and our leaders. Helmer does an incredible job of recognizing each individual’s inherent worth and invests heavily in the growth and development of their employees” stated Jared Owens, Continuous Improvement Manager.
