Longtime Barbershop Has Made the Cut For Nearly 20 Years In Zionsville

Getting a great haircut means communicating exactly what you want and telling the barber how you want your hair to look when you leave. In short, you want an excellent listener.

At Mitch King’s Noggin Barber, 156 S. 1st Street in Zionsville, the barbers know how to listen, and the clients leave satisfied with their haircuts. King ensures that.

King has been cutting hair for many years. He opened Noggin Barber in 2001.

He enjoys his work. He also loves to talk about sports with his customers. He may also get you into an excellent discussion about The Beatles. Most importantly, King really knows what he’s doing.

“I worked as an owner-operator solo the vast majority of my career, which I prefer,” King says. “But that would change.”

He loves working in Zionsville.

“Zionsville was not a consideration (for me) to barber,” King says. “It’s a fluke that I’m here today. Consequently, it was the best location possible. Zionsville is a progressive, friendly community with a small-town taste, perfect for growth.”

King believes the city has grown tremendously. He loves the positive changes that have happened over the years.

“Zionsville now has developed (to become) attractive to all age groups,” King says. “Mostly through food establishments and top schools. Zionsville has a small-town feel, but it is close to Indianapolis.”

King noted that he and fellow barbers, John Foster and Joe White, have a wealth of experience cutting hair.

“At this time, with the experience of all three barbers, there is nothing new in the procedure of hair cutting,” King says. “Although some haircuts appear new to the public, for us it may be a combination of two haircuts blending to create one. The hard part haircuts caught on fast. Through the years, I think we agree the bowl cut wore out its welcome!”

King enjoys working with Foster and White.

“Foster joined Noggin four years ago and Joe two years ago,” King says. “We all three worked together in the past. The transitions could not have been easier. And we all enjoy our own barbering rooms for privacy with our clients. Foster and Joe have lived in Zionsville for many years, and my wife, Tracy, and I live in the Keystone area.”

King is planning to expand the staff. “We need part-time help,” he says.

Mitch King’s Noggin Barber offers a cut, a neck shave, a shampoo and a grey blending and beard trim.

King’s business has great reviews on his Facebook page. The customers complement King, the great haircuts and the relaxing environment.

They praise “his ability as being everything a barber should be,” and how he’s a New York Yankees and Beatles fan.

On Yelp, his reviewers say King “always provides a great, consistent haircut each and every time,” and “Best on the northwest side, and likely in Indy.”

King credits his loyal customers for making Noggin a success.

“We would like to thank everyone for visiting Noggin,” King says.
