Lawrence Village at the Fort To Hit Milestone Tuesday, Sept. 18

The Fort Harrison Reuse Authority and City of Lawrence will celebrate the commencement of revitalization of Lawrence Village at the Fort – a Live-Work-Play, village-style community – on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007.

Demolition of the old Commissary and Post Exchange (PX) will begin at the Fort Harrison site on Tuesday, making way for village-style retail facilities in the heart of Lawrence Village. The revitalization effort – a milestone in the development of Lawrence Village at the Fort – kicks off at 9 a.m. at the old PX facility, located east of Post Road on 56th Street.

The Fort Harrison Reuse Authority Board will be joined by Mayor of Lawrence Deborah Cantwell and others to welcome the new life Lawrence Village brings to the area.

The new Commissary and PX opened on 59th Street in June 2007, built at the
request of the U.S. Army in a land acquisition agreement between the Army
and Fort Harrison Reuse Authority. The facilities provide U.S. Military personnel with a unique shopping opportunity – offering everything from grocery items to apparel at significant cost savings.

Lawrence Village has an ideal location and will be a vibrant revitalized modern urban community with a perfect transportation location that includes proximity to an impressive trail system, a beautiful State Park and a Championship Golf Course all within the boundaries of Lawrence Village at the Fort.
