New Lawrence Library online collection appeals to young people

The Indianapolis Public Library has expanded its collection of eBooks and e-audiobooks for kids and teens with the addition of the TumbleBook online interactive library. It combines popular books with sound, animation, music and narration to encourage reading for students ranging from preschool to high school.

The new online library includes TumbleBooks — entertaining, eye-catching eBooks and videos for younger children and beginning readers up to 3rd grade; TumbleBook Cloud Jr. — eBooks, read-alongs, chapter books, graphic novels, educational videos and audio books for more independent readers in grades 2 – 6; and TumbleBook Cloud – books, YA/teen novels, high interest/low level book classics, graphic novels, educational videos and audio books for grades 7 – 12.

“The eBooks for preschoolers and elementary students have terrific appeal with music, animated pictures and lively narration to capture their attention,” said Deb Lambert, the Library’s Director of Collection Management. “Books for older readers have a different kind of appeal with graphic novel formats, age appropriate content and narration, and other hooks to grab the attention of pre-teens and teens. What makes them even better is that there are never any checkout periods, holds or fines.”

The new eBooks also feature a “TumbleMobile” interface for eReaders and mobile devices with Internet connections, as well as adjustable online text, complete audio narration, sentences highlighting, vocabulary lists, and automatic page turns. In addition to popular picture books, chapter books, graphic novels and teen fiction, the content in the TumbleBook library includes Language Learning, Read-Along Books, Math Stories, National Geographic videos, Non-fiction Books, Puzzles and Games, as well as books in Spanish and French.
