Senior Cody Drudge is one of the biggest HSE fans. He is at almost every single major game, cheering on the team until the final buzzer. But Drudge has a bit of a different view – as the HSE mascot Roary the lion, he is on the field cheering.
“I heard from one of the cheerleaders that they were in need of a mascot, so I immediately volunteered because I knew I could fill that spot and be that guy,” said Drudge. “Being the mascot means you have to be enthusiastic 24/7, and being enthusiastic is my specialty.”
As Roary, Drudge is in charge of raising spirits, no matter what the score is. He goes to all major games and events, runs around taking pictures with fans and performing tricks. Hoping to leave behind a legacy as the best Roary, he works hard despite the heat and physical exertion that comes with the job.
“My goal for this year with being Roary is setting an example or a role for future Roarys,” said Drudge. “I want to be known as HSE’s number one mascot in all of school history.”
