Sagarin Ratings released; Fishers, HSE collide Friday

The first Sagarin Ratings for the 2015-16 Indiana high school boys and girls basketball season have been posted.Basketball logo

The ratings are even more interesting since they only came out a few days before Friday’s Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern girls and boys contests.

The Sagarin Ratings list the HSE boys at No. 19 in Class 4A and and No. 23 in the state, with an 85.92 overall rating. The Fishers boys are ranked Nos. 33 (class) and 40 (state), with an 83.27 rating.

HSE also has the better rating among the girls. The Lady Royals are No. 17 in class, No. 21 in the state, and boast an 89.58 rating. The Lady Tigers are Nos. 53 (class) and 84 (state), and have a 75.62 rating.

How much stock do you put into rankings, polls and overall ratings?

What about when fierce rivals meet? Is it more about motivation than records and/or maybe the final results of past meetings?

Two things we know for sure is that it’s the annual Mudsock Trophy contest, and it’s a big night for the City of Fishers, since it will be played on a bigger-than-usual regular-season stage. The schools meet in the ‘Collision at the Coliseum’ in the Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the State Fairgrounds.

The girls – Fishers (2-9) and HSE (8-4) collide at 6:30 p.m., and the boys – the Tigers (3-1) and the Royals (4-1) — do battle at approximately 8 o’clock.

The series has been onesided.

The Lady Tigers have dropped five straight games to HSE. They last defeated the Lady Royals in the 2009-10 regular season and also were victorious in 2007.

The Royals, who lost to the Fishers boys last season, have won all but two games in the regular-season series that dates back to 2006. The Tigers’ other victory came in 2009.

So what does all of this mean?

Hard to say.

For sure, though, the teams usually deliver competitive performances.

Effort won’t be lacking.

Emotions always run deep.

Bragging rights are on the line.

And, oh yeah, the adrenaline figures to be flowing!
