AHS 2017 Teacher of the Year: Chris Hill
Writer / Heather Chastain
“Being teacher of the year has been an honor,” Hill said. “I am fortunate to live and work in a community that holds teachers and education in such high regard. As far as I am aware, there is not an official definition of the Teacher of the Year, but I do not think I am even close to the best teacher in Avon.
“I am extremely fortunate to teach great students and am able to work with a great team of teachers that support students in their growth,” he added. I also have an administrative team that supports me in all of my teaching and is not afraid of thinking outside of the box in terms of project-based learning.”
Hill came to Avon right after graduating from Indiana State. He taught at the middle school for four years before transitioning to the high school. This is Hill’s seventh year at the high school.
During that time, Hill said he has seen the department grow significantly.
“I am fortunate to have outstanding students in class,” Hill said. “For the most part, all of my students really enjoy the work we do and challenge themselves and others to be their best. I also really enjoy teaching at Avon because of the unbelievably dedicated and talented staff. From kindergarten teachers through the Superintendent, we are all here to serve students and help them grow in multiple ways.
“I am pushed to be better every day because I have seen and continue to see excellence in teaching, there is a culture of teaching excellence,” he added. “This has been created over many generations of teachers within Avon and I am proud to continue it.”
