New Summer Program at Saint Simon

The Saint Simon the Apostle Catholic Church will be offering an all new Summer Religious Education (SRE) Program for the first time. The SRE program is for children in grades 1-5, consisting of grade level religious education classes.
This new option allows students to attend religious education classes for two weeks in the summer rather than on Sunday mornings throughout the school year.
“We decided to pursue this method of religious education to assist families who find it difficult to attend their traditional Sunday services,” says Coordinator of Religious Education Aimee May.
“It is designed to provide the same curriculum in a condensed amount of time,” says May. “Two weeks in the summer versus attending every Sunday morning from August to May allows families some flexibility and to not be tied to a particular time for Mass each Sunday.”
The classes provide the same grade level material (minus the Sacramental Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist) that is covered in the year-round Sunday classes.
Children will participate in the grade level classes for the grade in which the will be entering in the fall.
May says in addition to their religious education curriculum, they are including a liturgical music class in their daily schedule which would provide children the opportunity to learn the music used during their Sunday Mass.
Throughout the remainder of the year, families will be invited to attend family events to enhance and support their learning from the summer classes.
“We are very excited about the prospect of offering this new method of religious educations to our families!” says May.
