Center Grove High School Girls Tennis Senior Tribute

The IHSAA canceled the 2020 High School Spring Sports Season on April 2 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This ended the high school careers for six Center Grove girls tennis seniors, Holyn Aukerman, Jenna Boha, Gracie Bridgewater, Abby Hoard, Meg Strickland and Rachel Zheng. We are honoring these outstanding young ladies with this special salute. CG girls tennis head coach, Debby Burton, had the following praise for her seniors.

HOLYN AUKERMAN “Holyn is a feisty athlete with a tiny stubbornness streak. She brings a lot of energy to the team. I knew she would make an impact on Center Grove tennis, and she did helping her team reach the State finals three years in a row.”

JENNA BOHA “Jenna is bright, calm and confident. Jenna has a ton of grit and is one of the best mentally tough players I have ever coached. She is an extraordinary leader and will make a big impact to all those around her in the future.”

GRACIE BRIDGEWATER “Gracie is dedicated and always smiling. She handles adversity well, smiles and laughs frequently. She joined the team as a novice her junior year and made great strides in learning the game.”

ABBY HOARD “Abby is a quiet, dedicated leader. Abby is a rock for the team. She is willing to do whatever her team needs of her. She has been a wonderful role model to other girls on the court. She has been a three-year varsity player that has helped her team make it to the state finals three years in a row.”

MEG STRICKLAND  “Meg is helpful and willing to do whatever her team needs. She is bright, artistic and does not realize how great she is. She was a behind-the-scene rock star in practice as we prepared for the state finals the last two years. She will rock her next adventure in life with her grit, dedication and commitment to excellence.”

RACHEL ZHENG “Rachel is quiet and bright. She joined the team as a novice her junior year and made great strides in learning the game. She was dedicated to the team and works very hard. Her communication skills are great which will help her succeed in her future.”

I love each group of seniors. When a group of girls becomes seniors it is their turn to lead the team,” Coach Burton says. “We meet multiple times before the season to plan and prepare. These girls were on it, and I was really looking forward to their leadership this season. They willingly took ownership of the plans we made. These ladies are full of smiles, kindness, quiet leaders, vocal leaders, dedication and care for others. They were ready to lead this team through a great season. My heart breaks that they do not get this season to make memories and leave an imprint on the Center Grove girls tennis legacy.”
