Adam Norman has joined the Center Grove Community School Corporation (CGCSC) Board of School Trustees (Board) as an appointee to fill the seat left vacant by Dr. Susan Mullendore’s passing last month. He was sworn in at a Special Board meeting on Thursday by Board President, Jack Russell. He will serve through December 2014.
The Board was extremely pleased with both the quantity and quality of the candidates interested in the vacancy. Each candidate would have brought value to the Board and the corporation. This made it challenging for the Board toidentify the finalists and, ultimately, select a candidate.
After much evaluation and discussion, Mr. Norman was selected from a group of five finalists by Board members Thursday. The 40-year-old father of four graduated from Center Grove High School and is an Attorney employed as a Senior Manager for the Department of Child Services – Child Support Bureau in Indianapolis. Mr. Norman received a law degree from Indiana University School of Law in 1997 and a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Indiana University in 1994. He has served as a deputy prosecutor for some 14 years.
Mr. Norman and his wife, Amy (also a Center Grove High School graduate), have lived in Center Grove since childhood. His older son is a sixth-grade student at Center Grove Middle School Central, and he has another son in fourth grade at Center Grove Elementary. His other two sons will attend Center Grove Elementary soon.
“As a father, I have a vested interest in the continued health of our schools. Center Grove schools are the main reason my wife and I decided to raise our children in the same community in which we were raised,” Norman said.
The final vote came down to five finalists. Along with Adam Norman, candidates with final interviews Monday, March 4, were Brandyn Ferguson, Lisa Porat, John Steed and Dr. Sanjay Vyas. Those finalists were selected from an initial group of 19 candidates.
Board members pointed to Mr. Norman’s understanding of the needs and challenges facing Indiana’s public schools, his professional expertise, and his ability to analyze and create legislative policy as reasons for their support, along with his perspective as a parent of school-age children.
“Adam has a passion for education, and we are excited to have him join the Board as we work to establish programs and procedures which will best help all students to achieve at their highest potential and become contributing members of society,” stated Jack Russell, Board President.
