Frozen yogurt isn’t the only sweet thing at Sweet Swirlz, located in Plymouth. Faith Gamble opened the shop in March 2017 as a place for families to go and spend time together. Its family atmosphere is truly what sets the shop apart from others in the area.

“I would say I saw the need for a family, fun environment where kids can just be kids. There wasn’t a place to take your kids and have a little downtime,” Gamble says.

The community, while a large reason behind the opening of the shop, was not her only motivation. Gamble is a single mother to three young men — Cody, Parker, and Jayden (ages 21, 18, and 13).  As she explains, her family is extremely important to her. Jayden, who has special needs, gets to come to work with her every day.

To Gamble, this is one of the best parts of owning her own business.

“As the mom of a special needs kid, it allows me to take care of him, and it gives me the flexibility to take him to doctor’s appointments, therapy, and things like that, so I can leave and come back to work later,” she says.

Jayden has plenty of fun, too. Despite his being nonverbal, he still gets to interact with customers and other kids. This interaction is special for Gamble, too. She sees her son getting to have opportunities that not many people in Jayden’s position have.

“From owning the shop, when you see him smile, you’ll see him wave to them, and nine out of 10 times, they’ll walk up to the table. The other kids learning that it’s okay to be different, that right there shows me that it’s worthwhile. A lot of kids like him don’t get that interaction like he does. They’re put in a special need’s classroom, or they get kept at home. It lets other kids see that he smiles the same — we all smile the same, we all love the same.”

That love is part of what draws in customers. People appreciate the family-oriented atmosphere, in addition to the variety of flavors offered.

Sweet Swirlz offers a total combination of 18 flavors. There are six machines with 12 flavors, but you can mix each machine’s flavors to get something different. They always carry vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cheesecake, salted caramel, and cotton candy, as well as two non-dairy flavors. The non-dairy flavors change regularly, as do the four flavors. As far as toppings, there are over 50 choices.

“We have anything from boba to fresh fruit, canned fruit, gummies, and any kind of chocolate you can imagine. You name it, we have it,” Gamble says.

If you would like to try out Sweet Swirlz for yourself, you can visit them at 2868 Miller Drive in Plymouth or you can give them a call at 574-935-3220. They are open Monday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
